The Education Consumers Foundation's mailing was intended to show that great schooling is happening in the Metro system, but more than that, we wanted to help people learn about the state's value-added system and how it can help parents pursue great schooling for their children.
So my question is - what you have you done with the information?
Have you looked to see how your child's school is performing? And what have you done with that information?
Have you looked at the principles of effective schooling (in the Effective Schools, Common Practices report) to see how the best schools go about their business?
Have you talked with anyone about all this information - other parents, PTA/PTO members, administrators, elected officials?
Have you gone to your child's school to ask for their Student Performance Report? What did you think about the information you received?
We'd love to hear how this information is actually being used by parents - please tell us what you've done with the data!

I have looked through the ECF information, and as the mother of a 19-month old, my questions is - how do I get my child INTO the right school? Does it start with going to the right preschool? Is it largely determined by where we live? How do I figure it all out as a first time parent? (I come from a small town in Pennsylvania - and there was no such thing as choice in schooling. You had to go to the elementary school for your district, and there was only one middle school and one high school in town.) So it's a mystery to me what the next steps are, and where to go to get guidance on the process. Any feedback would be appreciated.
